EPPP

EPPP Part 1 Exam Prep 2026 - Practice Questions and Mock Exams

Weighted practice across all eight EPPP content domains, from Biological Bases of Behavior through Ethical, Legal and Professional Issues, with domain-level readiness analytics.

The EPPP is broad by design - eight domains, 225 items, and a scaled score that treats a weak domain the same as a weak day. PrepGen.ai covers all 42 topic areas of the ASPPB blueprint, weighted the way the exam weights them. Built for doctoral candidates and postdoctoral fellows preparing for licensure, and for anyone retaking after a near miss. The blueprint, fees, and candidate handbook are published by ASPPB.

Your next EPPP study block

  • Start in Assessment and Diagnosis or Treatment and Intervention - together they are close to a third of the exam.
  • Practice a weighted mixed set so the heavier domains get proportionally more of your time than the lighter ones.
  • Review every option, and for each miss decide whether it was a fact you did not know or a distinction you did not draw.

Tip: Research Methods and Statistics is the smallest domain, but it is also the most learnable one. It is usually the cheapest points on the exam.

Why PrepGen.ai EPPP Practice Works

The hard part of the EPPP is not depth, it is breadth: eight domains that draw on coursework you may have taken years apart. PrepGen.ai lets you practice in proportion to the blueprint, then analyze your readiness domain by domain, so study time goes where the exam actually puts its weight.

All Eight Domains, Blueprint-Weighted

Questions distributed the way ASPPB distributes them, so Assessment and Diagnosis carries more of your practice than Research Methods - exactly as it does on test day.

Domain Readiness Analytics

A per-domain view of where you stand, which matters on an exam where a single weak domain can pull a scaled score below the line.

An Explanation for Every Option

Each distractor is built on a specific confusion - a rival theory, a neighboring diagnosis, a misread statistic - and each carries its own explanation.

Practice Between Everything Else

Most candidates prepare while working a postdoc or an internship, so you can practice in short blocks and still keep the weighting honest.

EPPP Questions by Content Domain

Work one domain at a time while you rebuild it, then practice weighted mixed sets once the foundations are back. Learn more on the professional pricing page.

Focus Area

Questions by Domain

All eight ASPPB content domains, each broken into its own topic areas.

  • Assessment and Diagnosis: psychometric theory, test construction, differential diagnosis, base rates, models of psychopathology.
  • Treatment, Intervention, Prevention and Supervision: treatment decision-making, intervention techniques, consultation, telepsychology, supervision models.
  • Ethical, Legal, and Professional Issues: APA and CPA codes, professional standards, statutes affecting practice, ethical decision-making.
  • Foundations: biological, cognitive-affective, and social-cultural bases of behavior, growth and lifespan development, research methods and statistics.

Timed Blocks and Full-Length Simulations

A 225-item sitting is a long afternoon. Rehearse the full 4-hour-15-minute format before you meet it at Pearson VUE.

EPPP Format, Scoring, and Passing Standard

The EPPP (Part 1 - Knowledge) is a computer-based multiple-choice exam administered for ASPPB at Pearson VUE test centers, and used by psychology licensing boards across the United States and Canada.

    Exam Structure

    • 225 multiple-choice questions in a single sitting

    • 175 items count toward your score; 50 are unscored pretest items

    • Total testing time of 4 hours 15 minutes

    Scoring

    • Reported as a scaled score from 200 to 800

    • ASPPB recommends 500 as the passing standard for independent practice

    • Individual jurisdictions may adopt a different cut score

    Content Coverage

    • Eight content domains, each carrying a published blueprint weight

    • Assessment and Diagnosis and Treatment and Intervention are among the heaviest

    • Research Methods and Statistics is the smallest domain by weight

    Eligibility and Results

    • Your licensing board determines eligibility and authorizes you to test

    • Register through ASPPB, then schedule your appointment with Pearson VUE

    • A preliminary result is provided at the test center; the official result comes from your board

Confirm the blueprint and cut score with ASPPB and your board

ASPPB revises the EPPP blueprint periodically, and licensure requirements - including whether Part 2 (Skills) is required - vary by jurisdiction. Treat ASPPB and your licensing board as the source of truth.

    EPPP Study Plans

Most candidates prepare for three to six months around a postdoc or an early practice role. Both plans below practice in blueprint proportion rather than in equal slices.

    3-Month Intensive Plan

    • For candidates with a defined test date and protected study time
    • Month 1: the four foundations domains, roughly 50 questions a day
    • Month 2: Assessment and Diagnosis, Treatment and Intervention, and Ethics - the heaviest third of the exam
    • Month 3: weighted mixed sets and full-length simulations, repair only

    6-Month Longitudinal Plan

    • For candidates studying alongside a full postdoctoral or clinical schedule
    • Months 1-3: two domains at a time, 25-30 questions a day
    • Months 4-5: weighted mixed sets, one full-length every other week
    • Month 6: full-lengths weekly, drilling only what the domain analytics keep flagging

    Suggested Routine

    Study in Blueprint Proportion

Give the heavier domains proportionally more time. Equal slices per domain quietly overweights the smallest ones.

    Statistics Every Week

Research Methods and Statistics is small but highly learnable, and it decays fast if you leave it until the end.

    Rehearse the Full Sitting

Sit at least two complete 225-item simulations. Fatigue in hour four is a real failure mode and a rehearsable one.

    EPPP FAQs

    General FAQs

How many practice questions does PrepGen.ai have for the EPPP?+
We do not publish a fixed number, and a headline count would not tell you much on its own. What matters is coverage: all 8 content domains are represented. The bank is expanded continuously, so how much you can practice is set by your plan rather than by a fixed bank size.
How many questions is the EPPP?+
225 multiple-choice questions in a single 4-hour-15-minute sitting. Of those, 175 count toward your score and 50 are unscored pretest items.
What score do I need to pass?+
ASPPB recommends a scaled score of 500 out of 200-800 for licensure at the independent practice level. Some jurisdictions set their own cut score, so confirm with your licensing board.
Does this cover EPPP Part 2 (Skills)?+
No. PrepGen.ai covers Part 1 (Knowledge), the multiple-choice knowledge exam. Whether Part 2 is required depends on your jurisdiction.
    How long should I study?+
Three to six months of consistent practice is typical, depending on how recently you completed the relevant coursework and how much protected time you have.
Which domain should I start with?+
Start with a diagnostic rather than a guess. That said, Assessment and Diagnosis plus Treatment and Intervention together account for close to a third of the exam, so weakness there costs the most.
